NO SITTER

So what is a mom to do when she has appointments she needs to attend and two crazy kids in tow? Doctors appointments of all shapes and sizes, heck even a business meeting – with kids, can be ROUGH (sometimes all capitals rough). I rarely have a choice, it’s bring the kidlets or don’t go – and sometimes it’s “OMG stressful” sometimes it goes smoothly with no hiccups at all. Usually I stock up on snacks, bring books, quiet toys and of course the ever popular backup plan: my iphone and usually I plan appointments for when the bigger kiddo is at school. These tricks don’t always work in our favour. Like today for instance, no matter how many distractions and yummy items I pulled out of my bag we still got sucked into double tantrum town in the middle of a busy doctors office. Knowing that I will have to go back to this same appointment and dreading the same result, I’m asking and hoping maybe someone has a tip – what do you do when you have an appointment to attend but no sitter?

Because many have asked:  Headband:C/O Bambinos & Bunny – Tee:H&M – HAT:C/O Little Vida – Cardigan:C/O Shan and Toad

Is there a gym or YMCA near by or on the way that has childcare?

There probably is I should look into it again or one of the nanny services even just for the few times a year. Thank you!

This is pretty much me all the time now that my husband is deployed and we live 6 1/2 hours from family! I usually do the same. Snacks, quiet toys and books. My last resort is the iPhone. ha! I've also had a friend go with me and watch my son in the waiting room on her way to whatever she was doing. I don't know if that's an option for you or not. :)

Ah, I feel your pain! I like to wrap tiny treats or toys with ribbons, shiny paper and bows, and discreetly hand them out when I need my kiddo to behave like a human being for any extended period of time. It keeps him occupied, and keeps me sane.

Smart! Like a little gift, that takes them forever to happily open. :)

when i was a nanny and i had to bring the kids around town and there were meltdowns happening, I had 3 go to songs, that I would sing and we would learn the lyrics to them together so it would distract them. and then i'd play the video on my iphone – the songs were patsy cline "she's got you" , etta james "i'd rather go blind" and a french children's song called "l'abeille et the papillon" .
