Identical mom and daughter shoes, awwwwww. We were stopped too many times to mention (like our shoes were celebrities) and awwwwwed at in very loud whispers every where we went. So in case you were ever wondering, identical mom and daughter shoes are the bees knees (Harlow wants us to wear then EVERYDAY).

mom uniform errands MOM UNIFORM / TO RUN ERRANDS

DENIM VEST (token denim piece) . HOODIE (the comfort layer, that also keeps you warm) . STRIPED PANTS (the jazz to your regularly mundane errands. bring the jazz hands if you dare)  . TEE (bring the spring , since it might not actually be feeling like it outside) . BOOTIES (dreamboat booties, also good for a lot of walking – or so I tell myself in my dreams) . HANDBAG (the two hands free, handbag. a pretty backpack).

Call me crazy on the pants, it’s okay I fully expect it – yes, these pants are a “90′s flashback” OR a “smack in the face with the 90′s” if you please. This pair to me is the perfect updated middle ground, wearable stripe – thicker then a pin stripe, but not pulled from an old 90′s hair band costume. You could go the super stripe route, the middle ground stripe (like I would), or subtle and simple stripe – or maybe you’re like “get a life Brandy, no way could I wear any of those” sub in a faded black skinny instead (cause that would be my sub in).

Errands are not the highlight of my week, or day (because it’s usually a daily task) – they aren’t dreadful but certainly not exciting. SO why not wear a comfortable outfit that is a bit exciting and really these pants were meant to be seen with human eyes, so wear them on a day when you actually leave the house (because we all have many days like that). Also pattern mix, because why not!

VEST: Club Monaco (1997-ish) – SWEATSHIRT: C/O The Gap – SHIRT:H&M – JEANS:The Gap – BOOTS: C/O Joules Wellies

I’m a huge fan of buying less, only buying what you love and need – I even dumped my feelings all over this post about it. This  basic snowy day “let’s go to get bagels” outfit, is filled with some of my most favorite items – items I wear alllll the time, items that are easily paired with pretty much everything else in my closet. This vest for instance, I have worn it every fall and spring season since I bought it all the way back in GRADE 10! I have professed my love for this simple puffy black vest many times throughout the 16-ish years I’ve owned it – I still remember wearing this vest in high school because it hid my pack of cigarettes well in the pocket (I know, ewwwww!), and my sister sneakily taking it from my closet only to pretend later that she never wore it. This vest is like a song, that brings back memories every time I wear it (super cheesey and nerdy I know), but I’m pretty sure I already gave that up in the photos.

roll out of bed MOM UNIFORM / TAKE THE KIDS TO SCHOOL

TOUQUE (hide bed head in a flash) . PARKA (keep warm and cozy) . CARDIGAN (layer on a sweater) . MITTENS (hold little hands in warmth) . SHIRT (throw it on in a rush) . PANTS (comfortable and pulled together) . SOCKS (toasty toes) . BOOTS (boots of my dreams)

Okay, to be honest everyday is pretty much a “quick grab something to wear” sorta day, because really after everyone else is dressed and ready there is rarely anytime left. So, for me a closest full of items that are easy to throw together are a must, or I literally look like I just grabbed anything to wear. On a cold winter day, when we are running late to get King to school (which is daily unless Chris takes him) this is what I would love to throw on.

I have been majorly failing at My Style posts/Our Style posts lately, we go through waves of photo stages – sometimes it’s pretty hard to get everyone in one spot (or me alone) for a photo and forcing photos is never fun (and it always shows). Also, to be honest my usual budget for buying myself some clothes has been going straight to the kids lately, don’t get me wrong I do not spend a lot on the kids clothes – but they grow ALL the time so need new clothes ALL the time. Unfortunately, I am not still growing (in the bigger picture this is a good thing) so my need for clothes is not very high (at all) – whoever needs most gets in our home. So, since I haven’t been shopping for myself (at all) style posts would be super BORING – I thought I’d make up for my lack of Mom Style posts and pop in now and again with a new Mom Uniform series. Basically this is a post where I show you my uber-casual-tomboy style through outfits I pretty much wear on a daily basis, most likely they will be filled with items that are currently on my “oh I wish!” list.

momuniform summerpark Mom Uniform : to the park on a summer day

SUNGLASSES (cheap and stylish, just the way I like sunnies)  /  TANK (i want in every color)  /  SHORTS (perfect comfy length for playing and not worrying about where you sit)  /  SHOES (feels like a sneaker. but doesn’t look like a sneaker)  /  BACKPACK (of my dreams)

I generally dress very simple and as I became a Mama to two kiddos a year and half apart; each piece has developed a certain purpose (as well as suiting my style needs). These Mom Uniform posts will show you WHY I wear (or would wear) each item, as well as the obvious stylish reasons.

Is there a certain event or outing you would like to see a specific Mom Uniform for?

GREAT OUTFIT for Taking the kids swimming!

Sunday we had a family swim day, always a great time and early bedtimes afterwards (win win!). It’s still all gross and wintery out, I’m over it, so I’m breaking out a few spring items to make it feel a bit more like spring (favorite flower oxfords and spring sweater). I like to wear layers on family swim days (and almost everyday), since I’m always so much colder afterwards. Also I like a long button down shirt to wear while I change/chase a little toddler around the change room, cause you know it’s so fun to run away when Mom is half changed.

Another Mommy Style, many of you asked for more!

When it’s just me and the kids I like easy outfits that look good and I can still bust a move in. Today I will most likely be wearing a super easy outfit, the kids and I are going to be doing the last bit of holiday grocery shopping before the weekend. I hope the shoppers won’t be as ruthless and heartless as they will on Friday or Saturday. Wonder how I can work some hockey pads into my attire? I might need them.

PS. I took these pictures before I cut my hair. Which I just did this week, will hopefully share soon!

This is totally a reader requested feature (and some of you may request me to stop), and I keep saying “naw, no one wants to see me, the kids’ are the stylish and cute ones!” (because it’s the truth). I thought I’d give it a try then if it doesn’t work I can at least say “naw, it just didn’t fit”.  So every once in a while you might see a Mommy Style post pop in on our little corner of the internet.

I don’t have alot of opportunities to dress up, and honestly I’m a casual girl at heart anyways. Also since I have 2 kids, I don’t shop for myself as much as I would like (and I would like to ALOT) therefore I try to be creative and mix and match the things I own to create new outfits so I feel like I have new clothes. Basically my outfits are similar to the the kids’ since I restyle their stuff all the time too. I’m all about versatility and comfort while being stylish, so if the first two aren’t in the equation for an outfit, the outfit doesn’t make it out the door. Well okay I think that’s enough of a prologue.

Last weekend we went on a family walk and Chris snapped a few photos of me, we had intentions of taking photos for a family style post but no one was cooperating (mostly Dad). So this is what I wore, my mom uniform…

Everything in this outfit is old, or shall I say loved. This jacket is one of my favorites, and I love when I get a chance to wear it. The jeans, I actually found in a bottom drawer with tags still on! My sis sent them as a gift during the summer months so I packed them away till the weather cooled was a happy day when I found them. My shoes I’ve had since Chris and I got married I bought them in NYC when we went for a visit after our nuptials, sadly I have no idea the brand (which stinks because they one of my all time favs).

  • Band Jacket: Zara (2009)
  • Tank: H&M (past summer) similar
  • Green Jeans: DC (gifted) similar
  • Shoes:  (2007) similar

So there we go, this is a feature that may pop in now and again I promise not that often!

xoxo
