I get asked pretty often about how to start doing yoga and how I started, if I have any tips for doing yoga at home, or (maybe the most common) how I am able to practice yoga everyday. So I thought I would put together another post (I did one last year about hot yoga, filled with tips). I am not a teacher so my tips come from a fellow students, point of view. I kick my self in the face everyday (kidding, I wish I could raise my foot that high) for not “practicing” yoga regularly so so much sooner. I say practicing, because I used to go to a yoga class every once in a while. Maybe every couple weeks or so, but I wasn’t practicing – I was just attending. And I didn’t actually know there was a difference until I became a full fledged got-to-have-my-daily-yoga-fix addict. So let’s start from the beginning (the attending), and hopefully I can share a few tips along the way. click to read more (it’s a long one)…READ MORE
Let’s talk working out with kids. It’s so easy and totally not hard at all, right!? Ha! Usually I sneak out, before anyone is awake or after the kids go to bed and head to the yoga studio (my me time). Lately, my husband has been working so much sneaking out is really only possible 1 or maybe 2 days a week if I’m lucky. SO I try my best to make do with time and make a workout happen even with the supreme lack of alone time. I took this picture this morning (I had to capture it), this is me trying to sneak in a yoga practice – it’s cute, but otherwise not very effective. The only way I’m ever able to fit in a sorta decent work-out at home is to:
Hand out breakfast (oatmeal, a safe breakfast) run to the kids room and rush through a practice . Wait till King is at school and include Harlow, at home or maybe out for a run (but boy do I dislike and stink at running) . Wake up before everyone and tip-toe through a silent workout (tip toeing is really counter productive when you are trying to break a sweat) . During naptime or after bedtime (I am not very good at the evening workouts).
So working-out at home (with kids) how do you do it? Your tips, I need them!
Did I ever tell you about the time I became totally obsessed with Moksha Yoga? I had always wanted to practice yoga, I even tried it a few times but not enough to actually say “I do yoga”. I was more into other styles of working out at the time (P90x, Insanity, 30 Day Shred, etc, etc) but my obsession with those were fleeting and they faded when the 30-90 days were up. I can now proudly say “I do yoga” and it feels way less cheesy and granola-y then I thought I would (a big thank you to my friend Ashleigh for introducing me to it, she owns this awesome studio). When you fall head over sweaty heels in love with something it’s really hard not to talk about it a lot (but I will try to keep it to a minimum on the blog) – for the past two months I have been hooked on sweaty hot yoga, 4-6 times a week wishing is was 7, sorta hooked. The benefits I have noticed in my mind and body have been pretty astounding, no other physical activity has offered so many fantastic positive changes. I really wanted to share some of my thoughts, why I am head over heels in love with it and some tips from a nervous and scared beginners point of view (I was SO nervous and intimated to start) – so if this is something that you want to read more about…read on if not, don’t worry regular content will be back on the blog tomorrow!READ MORE
