THE EVERYDAY GRAPEFRUIT THE EVERYDAY | BREAKFAST

enjoying those EVERYDAY moments : 11/52 – breakfast grapefruit.

I think my morning grapefruit wakes me up, then the extra large giant cup of coffee just keeps me up. Just something about that first slice when the smell of grapefruit fills the air, right down to the last sour but super sweet bite that is just so unbelievably addicting.

Two back to back posts with food in them, I can pretty much guarantee this is the only time that will happen – so don’t fret I am not forking over into food blog territory (just a qawinky dink).

Before I tell you anymore, you need to know that this post idea is an original OhDearDrea series – all credit must be sent in her direction, preferably in the form of internet kisses, oooos and awwwws, sour dough bread and Oreo cookies.

SIMPLE SPAGHETTI WHAT WE EAT

SIMPLE SPAGHETTI | quinoa noodles, uncooked minced garlic, uncooked chopped kale, nutritional yeast, chili pepper flakes, pepper, extra virgin olive oil. basically a pumped up version of this.

pancake WHAT WE EAT

EXTRA FLUFFY PANCAKES | a basic pancake recipe like Martha’s with a twist:  3/4 cup of milk and 1/4 cup greek yogurt instead of 1 cup of milk and maple syrup instead of sugar.

b brussels WHAT WE EAT

BACON BRUSSEL SPROUTS | an adaptation from Rachael Ray’s recipe, less bacon, less bacon grease, no oil and vegetable broth + sirracha.

GRAPEFRUIT OATMEAL WHAT WE EAT

GRAPEFRUIT & ALMOND APPLE OATMEAL | fresh grapefruit, plain oatmeal with almond butter, unsweetened apple sauce and a dash of coconut milk.

c spag WHAT WE EAT

CURRY SPAGHETTI | quinoa noodles, jarred vegetable bolognese, sauteed mushrooms, onion and garlic and curry paste (my secret is out).

veg enciladas WHAT WE EAT

ROASTED VEGETABLE ENCHILADAS | eats well with others recipe, sub greek yogurt instead of sour cream and add sirracha of course.

I’m no chef nor am I a food photog, but I thought it would be fun to share small snaps of what we eat once in a while – sometimes it is more exciting then what we wear (especially when our Spring clothes look exactly the same as our Winter ones, if you know what I mean). We are pretty simple cooks and eaters over here, we like our meals to be healthy, delicious and not budget breaking (budget nazi, right here). We are moderation eaters (that’s our label and I’m sticking to it), we eat alot of meatless, wheatless, au natural, and fresh foods, I try to stay out of the freezer and dry food sections when shopping (when possible). But we still enjoy some wheat, meat and junk in moderation (sometimes very light). Oh also, by we I sorta actually mean, me – since I am the grocery shopper, chef, and sous chef around these parts.

I can’t promise even a little that our food will be as delicious or as pretty as What Marlow Eats but maybe some of you will dig in. (too cheesey?)

MOM TIME OUT the little things we do MOM TIME OUT / THE LITTLE THINGS WE DO

LAUREN FROM THE LITTLE THINGS WE DO, WOULD WEAR: 01.dress 02.ring 03.necklace 04.shirt 05.bag 06.booties

SHE WOULD USE: 07.journals 08.chocolate croissant 09.coffee 10.pen

We have a pretty fancy espresso machine at home and my husband makes me mochas daily, so, why would I want to go out for coffee? Because it seems completely superfluous and like a fun splurge even though it’s something simple. I used to love frequenting the amazing coffee shops here in Portland before having my daughter Fern, but nowadays taking her to any place where she has to sit for more than five minutes is a challenge (not to mention the glares from the childless hipsters) so coffee dates with myself are the perfect time out. I get to reconnect with my pre-mama self and get recharged to head home to my favorite people.

Lauren is a stylist/blogger extraordinaire, spilling the beans in 3 online places – check  her out and her cutie pie daughter Fern on her personal blog.

enjoying those EVERYDAY moments : 10/52 – hand washing.

Maybe more important, the progression of a soaking wet shirt (every single time).

Just a little housekeeping, you can subscribe to follow Heart & Habit through bloglovin – they also have a nifty feature that will help you seamlessly move over your google reader content (since google reader is shutting itself down).

kennsington10 SPLIT SECOND OF SPRING

We got a tiny peek into spring on Sunday – we walked through one of our favorite neighborhoods, window shopped, stocked up on tiny $5 sunnies, tried to find a place that had space for kids to sit and eat (a tough task at most restaurants) and played on one of the dirtiest parks in the city. Currently the weather is back to cold and the smell of spring is masked by my scarf, mittens and hat – the split second of spring was a major tease, which sorta left us feeling a bit anxious for more. So, this is me holding my breath till spring decides to come back, pretty sure I’ll be holding it for a long time (hopefully not) – Canada really likes to tease us on the weather front, I really should be used to her games by now.

bike rides with the girls

….do not happen enough. As a work at home mum, taking a shower on a regular basis is a luxury so you can imagine how often these happen. Those far too rare moments when the stars are aligned and we can all make it out together, are much needed and appreciated. A ride by the pacific ocean to the pier for some wine and frivolous chat are my favourite. And yes, I can absolutely wear heels when bike riding, I’m just that (tipsy) talented.
If you are on Instagram, you really should be following @danniremender, that is is you like adorable stylish kids and really funny awesome people.

BROTHER JACKET6 LITTLE STYLE | BROTHER JACKET

JACKET:Zara (2010) similar – SWEATSHIRT:H&M (2011) similar – SHIRT:C/O Little Vida – PANTS:C/O American Apparel – BOOTS:Zara

I wonder how long she will be super duper excited to wear her brother’s clothes, I think I was maybe almost a teenager when I really disliked it. As it stands now she’s “jump up and down” excited whenever she gets to wear something King has grown out of – and King is so proud to give it, hands on hips “I want you to have this, because I love you” proud.

Right now her favorite color is black, and sometimes pink or purple (that was today anyways), and she loves dressing just like me and doing whatever her cool big brother does. I am fully expecting (and holding my breath a little) to hit an ‘all pink all the time’ phase, ‘tutu’s to bed’ phase, ‘sweatpants for everything’ phase (most afraid of this possibility), ‘brother jackets for life’ phase, or some sort of refusing to wear anything but phase soonish (or maybe not?). Does your little one like to wear a certain type of clothes alll the time? I personally went through a “if it doesn’t have pockets, no thank you phase”, interested to hear what your little ones awesome clothes phase is or was.
