UNIFORM / KEEP IT COMFY

UNIFORM / keep it comfy #style no.1 fur collar parka – no.2 hoodie – no.3 toque – no.4 zip open leather mittens – no.5 hook earrings – no.6 ankle blue jeans – no.7 long striped shirt – no.8 sneakers

Keeping on the sneaker road, this would be my comfy uniform of choice for today. A few people commented last week that they love sneakers, but don’t know how to wear them in an everyday setting. So here’s one idea for you, and there is most definitely more if you check back in the Uniform series. And before anyone asks, layer that hoodie over the shirt and just totally forget the iron in the closet. Zip open mittens? I don’t know, but they intrigued me and I want to own them!
Happy Hump Day!

UNIFORM / KEEP WARM

winter-uniform1 winter-uniform2 winter-uniform4 winter-uniform3 Hat: Target – Parka: Aritzia – Sweater: The Gap (similar) – Tee: Aritzia – Jeans: Fidelity – Boots: Zara (they aren’t on the site anymore)

Basically, my winter uniform – except I’m usually wearing my winter boots, because warmth trumps all. But my recent new boot obsession, are these zipper booties (which don’t seem to be on the site anymore, IDK guys) and only half because they make me sound like a cowboy with spurs on my boots when I walk. And yes, that is a backpack – I just can’t leave home without one.

I have to more gift guides and then gift guide season on H and H will be fin. This post is gonna be short and sweet, because I’m running out the door to see a cute winter concert and well, my brain just can’t think of anything else to type (it happens).

UNIFORM / EVERY FALL TO WINTER DAY

fall-winter-uniform1 fall-winter-uniform2 fall-winter-uniform3 fall-winter-uniform4 fall-winter-uniform5 Parka: Aritzia – Tee: SkarGorn – Jeans: Fidelity – Sneakers: Converse – Gloves: Dollarama – Hat: American Apparel

I feel like it’s your lucky day, I swear my usual (rare) real life uniform posts are a good 25% more awkward than these photos. because un-awkward photos of me makes it your lucky day? I don’t have a clue why. I owe all the credit for the less awkward photos all to fall clothing. I love summer (LOVE summer) and spring is the best season there is (pants, sandals but no jacket weather is probably my favorite). And even though I complain about winter and often fall  too (but only because it eventually turns into winter), there is something so comforting about fall and winter clothing. Sure a tank top and shorts is comfortable in 35+C temps, but it’s also a little awkward being without so much fabric.

I know I’m still not making much sense, but bare with me. Fall and Winter clothes remind me of being wrapped a blanket sitting on my couch. An oversized sweater, a warm scarf, a big comfy parka? All of it feels like that blanket is wrapped around me all day, basically fall and winter attire feels like I’m wearing a big security blanket all of the time. Spring and summer it’s minus the blanket and way less than half the amount of clothing, not awkward but less comforting.

This is not an ode to fall and winter (okay fall is pretty cool, look at all the color!), because let’s be real warm weather trumps everything. But maybe an ode to clothing security blankets, that make life or at least photos a tad less awkward.

I hope you all had a super Halloween, we forgot to take photos – like zero photos, even from my phone. And I even dressed up this year, or did I? There are no photos, so I could be lying. 😉

UNIFORM / MONDAY-FRIDAY

uniform | monday-to-friday fall style 1. cropped grey sweatshirt (on sale till Sunday) 2.boyfriend flannel 3.high-low choker necklace 4.quilted pencil skirt (25% off today with code:FAMILYNOW) 5.shortie gloves 6.two-tone socks 7.chunky black booties (25% off today with code:FAMILYNOW) 8.small leather backpack 9.black/gold watch

Monday to Friday, an outfit to get you through just about anything the week could throw at you. Staple fall layers and accessories, items that can be worn everyday, all-season-long. It seems to take some really good fall sales to get me in the mood for fall (saving money always puts me in a good mood), plus of course all the beautiful colors popping up outside. There are a bunch of really great sales going on right now (two really good ones in the links above) and a rainbow of fall colors happening outdoors, which means I’m officially (and finally) happy fall is here – but please, no pumpkin spiced lattes for me.

EVERYDAY BAG / GIVEAWAY

BRAVE Leather 'Dara" Bucket Bag BRAVE Leather 'Dara" Bucket Bag If a bag doesn’t have the capability to become a ‘everyday” bag, then it’s just not the bag for me! Everything that goes into my closet, needs to seamlessly fit into to my existing uniform – otherwise it’s a no-go and my closet basically spits it right back out.  This bag, from BRAVE Leather is the perfect bucket bag that can be worn over the shoulder or as a backpack, actually this bag didn’t even make it in my closet at all. It went from being nicely packaged in the box straight onto my back and it hasn’t left since (well, I don’t sleep without it – that might be a little silly or would it?). I can fit all my regular purse items (my wallet, maybe a lip balm and my trusty notepads) plus my chunky SLR or my water bottle – it would easily fit both the camera and water, but I’m not really a gambler.

BRAVE Leather 'Dara" Bucket Bag BRAVE has been making fine leather goods (like this bag) for over 20 years, each item is ethically designed and manufactured in Canada. They create women’s and men’s belts, handbags and accessories, all finely crafted and made to last both time and live well-beyond trends.

And hey, guess what!? The wonderful people at BRAVE want to give one very lucky (it really is a fantastic bag) Heart & Habit reader a Dara leather bucket bag of their own!

You have a choice between two colorways in the Dara the spring Sienna (like my bag) or the new fall color which is a galaxy silver finish. *There is one mandatory entry (the “leave a blog post about your favorite fall item” one) so, make sure you check that one entry off the list or your other entries won’t count!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Open to US and Canadian residents. BRAVE leather will ship the winning bag to the randomly chosen giveaway winner, Heart & Habit does not distribute or handle items at all. Giveaway winner has 7 days to respond to winning email, if there is no response within this time – another random draw will take place.

UNIFORM / RUNNING AROUND

uniform-running-around 1.denim vest – 2.floral bomber – 3.baseball henley – 4.high rise jeans – 5.sneakers – 6.field bag – 7.crystal pendant

Running to drop off the kids, running to get stuff done while they’re at school and then running to pick them up. So far I feel like if I’m not running around all day, I’m speeding to fit as much work into the time I have and then I run off. So as always its sneakers (always and forever) are the go to, a big bag to throw everything in and high-waisted ripped black jeans because they are everything. And just for fun, a denim jacket over the floral blazer or under if I just sounded like a total whack job even suggesting that.
