VEST HOODIE: H&M – TEE: Crewcuts (it glows in the dark) – PANTS: H&M – SHOES: Mini Mioche – BACKPACK: American Apparel

Last week the kids had their first dental appointment, I know a little late for a 4.5 year old but better late then never! No cavities were found, only clean white teeth (a bit of a relief) and they both sat like champs for the dentist (I was expecting tears or fears). We also found out that King has extra special teeth, an extra 2 special teeth to be exact – most kids have 10 teeth on top and 10 teeth on the bottom. King (maybe it’s because he has King teeth to match his name) has 12 teeth on top! Really this means nothing in terms of super powers, it just means he needs to brush 2 extra teeth and that he will forever perplex dentists and hygienists alike (or at least until he gets his adult teeth). We celebrated an amazing first visit with burgers partially because it was in the middle of zero personal space (rush hour) traffic and I wanted to wait a bit before hitting the subway. And King decided to celebrate his new dentist toys and cinnamon breath with some random but amazing street yoga/gymnastics.

Token mom photo, me trying to wipe dryed hot chocolate off my boys face and him extremely unimpressed and probably super annoyed.

My Mother’s Day was fantastic, we stayed in our PJ’s for over half the day and my family wouldn’t let me lift a finger. Then we went for a walk realized, it was freezing cold out, chugged some hot chocolate to warm up then devoured sushi to end the perfect low key day. I love my family, and I and beyond blessed to hold this Mom title.

The only thing my day was truly missing, was one on one time with my Mom – she lives about 4000 km away and so our “one on one time” came in the form of a skype date. I’m never really sure how to lead into a post filled with actual emotions (since I am more of a visual person), I usually stumble a bit until I can get to that part my brain won’t stop thinking about… READ THE FULL POST

the everyday streetcar THE EVERYDAY | RIDING

enjoying those EVERYDAY moments : 18/52 – riding the streetcar.

Living in the city, not owning a car (I know, it sounds crazy) and relying solely on our two feet, the subway and streetcars (and buses when we have to) to get us from point A to B – means that every single trip, no matter how boring the destination (yesterday it was to the dentist) it’s always an adventure for them.

Sunday is Mother’s Day, and have to admit that I always feel a bit nervous throwing out the blanketed HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all statement. This is also sorta the reason why I didn’t write a mother’s day specific post, that and lately (to be totally honest) I stink so bad at planning ahead and getting important things like birthday cards, and mother’s day cards (sorry Nana and Oma, they will be late again) done in time. This happy and wonderful “holiday” also makes me feel a bit sad sending love and happiness to a specific group of women, when maybe (even though it of course would be meant with love) might put a little sadness in someone’s heart. So instead of a blanketed statement I will send out a long winded because this day should be a celebration of more then us “Mother’s”: Happy Mother’s Day to all you mom’s, mom’s to be, mom’s to one day be, mom’s struggling to be, grandmas, great grandmas, those mom’s who have lost, and those who have lost mom’s (I hope I included everyone). Happy Mother’s Day to all of you! And if you don’t celebrate at all, a very happy May weekend to you!

CURRY LENTIL SHEPHERDS PIE | yummy mummy kitchen recipe but with a sub in of Indian spices instead of thyme and rosemary.

CAPRESE WHAT WE EAT / 2

FRIED QUINOA WHAT WE EAT / 2

EGG FRIED QUINOA | Liv Life‘s recipe

SALMON TACO WHAT WE EAT / 2

SALMON TACOS | Cup Of Jo‘s recipe. (a kiddo favorite)

TERYI CHOW MEIN WHAT WE EAT / 2

TERIYAKI TOFU CHOW MEIN | dry fried tofu marinated, stir fry veggies and tofu and boil noodles (no frying). this teriyaki sauce recipe, but tamari instead of soy, cane sugar instead of brown (half the amount of sugar), and balsamic vinegar instead of wine.

Original post from OhDearDrea, she inspired me to create my own. I’m not a food photographer, and most of the time I forget to take photos while the light is good (or at all, cause we usually don’t like to wait to eat for anything) – but these are some of our favorite recent meals. And I swear my kids actually do eat all of this, Harlow asks for the salmon tacos all the time (they really are the best, like the recipe says).

MOM TIME OUT shelby MOM TIME OUT / BRANDON & SHELBY

SHELBY FROM BRANDON & SHELBY WOULD WEAR: 01.sunglasses 02.sun hat 03.baseball tee 04.leggings 05.rubber boots

TO A GARDENING MOM TIME OUT: image via Dreamy Whites

SHE WOULD USE: 06.gardening tools basket 07.trowel 08.plant markers 09.gloves

Spring is here and with spring comes new life! I love gardening and putting my hands in the ground as it helps grounds me and my thoughts. Gardening is so refreshing, as I can work in the dirt and sort out my thoughts and be inspired by all the new life around me. Its so amazing to see all the beautiful things that come from the earth, how could you not be refreshed and inspired? So in my mom time out, I would make my escape to the fresh outdoors and utilize my hands and able body to create something new and living.

HAT: Blue Jays – JACKET: c/o Osh Kosh – SHIRT: H&M – TROUSERS: Zara – SHOES: Converse

I took these pics early last week, before spring/summer really jumped her awesomeness on us. He looks all extra handsome, super dude like and happy here, but sadly these days spring/summer has brought the super pollen and my poor little dude is having a super bad allergy season. He has all the symptoms like the commercials say, but so much harder on a little guy – he wants to play but going to the park means super DE-duper itchy eyes, sneezing and a running nose. And no hollistic, homeopathic remedies are making a dent this year, I swear the pollen is super powered this year – and kiddo meds are not my favorite to give (but for the sake of easing a bit of his allergies, I do). Our grass is now super green and our trees pretty much full of leaves and big blossoming flowers – it all looks so beautiful, hopefully it starts to feel a bit more beautiful for us allergy stricken dudes (I’m one of the sad red eyed, stuffy suckers too).

BIKES1 SLOW AND STEADY bikes2 SLOW AND STEADY bikes3 SLOW AND STEADY bikes4 SLOW AND STEADY bikes5 SLOW AND STEADY

We have officially entered into a little trike and bike obsession over here. The last couple summers they were both a little; “meh bikes are pretty cool, I guess”, this year they NEED to come with use everywhere. We are working with the bikes we have right now, and hopefully will be upgrading to some bigger kiddo bikes soon – mostly getting a proper bike with pedals for the balancing boy. Watching them ride bikes and walking beside them as they ride is awesome, obviously. Right now we are at the slow dance stage of bike riding, add an extra hour to travel time and slowly but surely we will get there. I expect by about mid season, my anxious heart is going to be fluttering and Chris and I won’t be needing to go for separate runs anymore. I’m a little extra nervous, as city living means no street is really a quiet one – so for now slow and steady really does win the race, and my anxious heart.

Harlow (because a few of you have asked)//  TEE: c/o American Apparel – SHORTS: c/o Osh Kosh – SANDALS: Saltwater
