MOM TIME OUT / IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS

mama watters, its the little things, mom time out, mom break, adult time, mom style, cooking break AMANDA (aka Mama Watters) FROM IT’S THE LITTLE THINGS WOULD WEAR: 01.Glasses  02.Sweats  03.Apron  04.Slippers

SHE WOULD USE: 05.Dutch Oven  06.Cookbook  07.Oven Mitt  08.Verjuice  09.Utensils  10.Salt Bowl  11.Mortar and Pestle

As a full time middle school English teacher and mama of one energetic tot, I jump at the opportunity for some mom time out.  Each and every night I find solace in our cozy little kitchen where my stress melts away with each turn of the wooden spoon.  The likelihood of cooking with no one (cough* cough* Stella) running through my legs is rare, but that doesn’t mean I can’t put on my apron and compile an array of random ingredients while backing up Ella Fitzgerald on Pandora, right?  For me, there has always been something so comforting about creating a meal for my family.  The stirring, the smelling, the savoring as I go…all of this is very cathartic for me.   It is a ritual that I look forward to before we sit down and share our days with one another.  Not only is cooking a way to get some precious me time, but also serves as an expression of love for my family.

Make sure you check out Amanda’s adorable blog, she has a serious talent with words and a super talent of making adorable babies!

HAT:Zara (2011) – SWEATER:H&M (2011) – SHIRT:H&M – LEGGINGS: C/O American Apparel – BOOTS:Zara (similar)

It’s coo coo crazy that this coming weekend is the last one in February – crazy AWESOME! I really try not to wish time away, just winter and February. If you look up February in a dictionary I’m sure you will see CABIN FEVER as the main description. We have been chasing what little light peeks through the clouds, indoors (where it’s warm) – hanging out taking pics in stairwells, I think that’s a symptom of cabin fever. I am SO excited for March, the window to spring – I’m not kidding myself that spring will come next month, but it is the window and boy I cannot wait to see some grass, leaves and sunshine through it!

PATTERNED BELT DIY

kids style, make old new, fix an old belt, toddler belts, toddler patterned belt, diy belt, diy patterned belt

A quick little DIY for those little belts that come with dresses and pants – the ones that last only a few wears? You know the ones, since I love to extend the life of even the smallest items – why not those teeny little toddler belts too. I’m sure this would work great for a thin adult sized belt too.

SUPPLIES:

  • old belt
  • glue gun
  • fabric tape (I used this one)

  • First spend a couple moments fixing the belt, I used a glue gun to piece this one back together. There was a few tears and rips.
  • Stick the tape to the belt, you can use a thin layer of the glue from the glue gun at the ends to make that area a bit stronger.
  • Poke a small hole for the belt knob (what the heck to you call this thing?), and wrap it around the back. If you like go a head and cover the back of the belt with tape too – totally you to you. I would use super thin layers of glue in high stress areas to keep the tape extra secure.

She’s not perfect (the belt, Harlow obviously is), but better then before – and when on you don’t see the teeny tiny details that aren’t totally perfect. Fabric tape does the work, Washi tape is far too thin and wrinkles when curved. kids style, make old new, fix an old belt, toddler belts, toddler patterned belt, diy belt, diy patterned belt kids style, make old new, fix an old belt, toddler belts, toddler patterned belt, diy belt, diy patterned belt

I’m now on the hunt for some plain white or black fabric tape – so I can draw my own designs and create a belt (and basically put it on all the things). Quickest little DIY this side of Monday, what do you think?

STYLED TO LAST / 8

kids style, kidswear, kids clothing, make kids clothing last, style kids clothes to last, kids clothes that grow

It’s been a while, I know – but let’s just forget about how long it’s been since Styled To Last has posted and be happy it’s coming to lunch today. Here are 3 more items with lot’s more tips on how to style those little clothes to last. I just really love to suck every last wear out of clothes, what can I say. If you missed previous posts, here is a good place to catch up.

WEAR SHORTS ALL YEAR ROUND. Layer over tights in Winter, knee high or ankle socks in Fall or Spring, pair with boots or shoes for cool Summer days and of course sandals on dreamy hot Summer days. Hey, you might as well get some extra wear out of them, for many of us Summer is sadly too short – so make them an all season bottom. Denim Shorts: The Gap

THEY LITERALLY GO WITH EVERYTHING. Wear it as a jacket, under a jacket, as a cardigan, dressed up and belted, even under a sweater.  It’s a rare day when one of us (or all of us) are not wearing a hoodie. A plain basic hoodie in any color might be our most favorite article of clothing. Hoodie: American Apparel

FOR LITTLE GIRLS. Usually they are a little too wide or big, but a few little tricks will make a hand-me down or a tee from the boys section perfect for her too. Roll up the sleeves a little, tuck it in, layer it under a cardigan or dress, wear over a girly top, or go 90’s and tie a little knot when worn over a dress or a longer top. My favorite tees are usually from the boys section (much less glittery and glitzy), either Harlow get’s tees handed down to her or I shop directly in the boys section. Boys Tee: Zara
