Love, hate or feel totally indifferent about them? You gotta admit it’s always pretty fun to gander at the trends, no matter what your take is. I won’t talk to much about how I personally feel (or maybe don’t feel) about trends, since I already did that, here. But I will say that the word “trend” feels weird to say because in all honestly it’s just a very subjective term but also has this strange over tone to it. For me it’s like the word blog, I like blogging and reading blogs but the word “blog” just doesn’t feel or sound right or even accurate. But anyways, enough about that (you’re supposed to stop me when I start rambling!?), let’s talk about the “trendy” footwear that will sure to transfer over into popular footwear (trend/popular, totally different in my books — see what I mean? subjective) by the end of summer.
The SLIP ON SANDAL
Which just happens to include the top title picture up there, double duty (haha duty). The slip on sandal is like a house sandal, the sandal you slip on to take the garbage out, or wear in the showers at the gym, BUT fancied up whole lot. Basically, it’s comfy and easy to wear. Easiest way to add this in your closet? Switch out the flip-flop for the slip on sandal, done.
[ one in title – teal slip on sandal ] [ two – wide quilted slip on ] [ three – two strap birks ] [ four – criss cross slip on ]
This is like a come back every other season sorta trend, but it’s always just slightly different. This time you’ll find the jute rope sole on loafer, d’orsay flat, oxford and slip on sneaker style shoes this run around. Of course any time of espadrilles are great and they totally just scream summer, no matter what your style of choice is.
[ one – striped oxford ] [ two – toe cap ] [ three – red sneaker ] [ four – ankle strap ]
The POINTED FLAT
Pretty much any type of flat now has a point to it, in case before they felt rather pointless — har har har. D’Orsay flats are big this year, which is probably where this trend lies the most but all other flats are feeling rather pointy along with them. It sorta makes the casual flat a bit more dressy looking, without you even having to try — winning.
[ one – heel cover ] [ two – d’orsay flat ] [ three – ankle strap ] [ four – t-bar ankle strap ] [ five – slip on ]
This one is gonna last FOREVER, right!? My favorite shoe trend, that I’ll hold on to forever regardless. Like come on comfy feet, what’s not to love? For spring summer sneakers I always lean towards the white and the bright, I mean it just makes sense?
[ one – high top vans ] [ two – classic adidas ] [ three – red new balance ]
More of a casual, understated, everyone-can-wear-this type of platform. You’ll see this lifted sole on sneakers, oxfords, sandals mostly — but I don’t think the platform discriminates against shoe type. So hey, why not add a little lift to shoes that would otherwise be lift-less.
[ one – black oxford ] [ two – white tassel sandal ] [ three – slip on sneaker ] [ four – red with wood sole ] [ five – black strap sandal ]
The PEEP TOE
Another style detail that technically never went away, basically it’s always around here somewhere. This time it’s just showing up with a bit of a different face. Peeping out of flats and boots, basically turning things into a half sandal, half shoe sorta deal-y.
[ one – mule boot ] [ two – pons ] [ three – perforated boot ]
The SPORTY SANDAL
Another style that is heavy on the comfort scale. This is a style people will either love or totally hate, or just bring back memories they’d like to keep as memories. There is always a fun and totally not that trendy way to jump on something, these are my “trendy but not overly trendy” picks for the sporty sandal.
[ one – pink teva’s ] [ two – elastic strap birks ] [ three – leather sport ]
The ROMAN SANDAL
Or gladiator sandal, however you prefer to say it. This is one of those sandals that looks good on pretty much every foot and often never really goes out of style (depending on how crazy you get with the style). Maybe just look in your closet, maybe you still have your pair from a couple of years ago?
[one – black buckles strappy ] [ two – thick straps ] [ three – thin tan straps ]
And if you are looking for spring summer clothing trends, that won’t feel too trendy — you can find 8 of those here.
Do you have a favorite or maybe a favorite one to hate?
