Not the first snowfall ever in history, or the first one they have ever seen, or I guess not even the first one of the year (technically). But yesterday was the first actual decent snowfall that stuck around, and one that they will both most likely remember. So it is sorta the “first snowfall”, unless you want to get all technical. We were out playing in the snow again today, so expect a few more posts of rosey cheeks, smiles and snotty noses – because we are gonna roll around and get freezing cold and wet till it allll melts.

So Christmas morning, the only day it’s okay to be woken up before 5 am – because it’s guaranteed to be a morning filled with pure happiness, excitement and thankfulness.

We had a very low key and simple Christmas, a day spent together and Skyping with the ones that live too far away (and waking up hours before the sun came up). We have been away from extended family for two Christmases now, it’s sad. We miss them especially during holidays, but it has also been nice to have the time to change how we do Christmas – I always remember it being a go, go GO holiday, rushing off to family dinners/gatherings.  It’s wonderful to be around so many people you love, but it’s also so wonderful to sit back and take in the day. I’m being all contradictory, basically spending a few Christmases just us 4 has taught us to slow things down and simplify even the busiest of days – hopefully we can celebrate it’s new found simpleness with all our family next year.

Sorry for the low quality photos, it was 5 am (pitch black outside) and before coffee sooooo, yeah. I ended Christmas feeling even more thankful for my family, something I didn’t think was possible – they are forever my three Christmas presents.

Christmas, hangover we may have caught you just a little – really we just do not want to go back to reality of not being in our PJs all day long. Today is boxing day (usually a day for crazy people who love to shop deals in huge crowds) we had planned to use this day to clean up and get back on track, instead we sit back and watch movies in full on cuddle mode. I plan to maybe tidy a little bit, and probably hit the yoga studio for a class – but otherwise the new plan is to cure our Christmas Hangover with one more epic day of PJs and cuddles. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

PS. I took these photos a few days before the jolly man in the red suit stopped by, so it only looks like we (well at least the kids) are outside and in real clothes today – but really we are not.

Happy Holidays from us, to you and yours! Christmas eve and the kids are crazy excited (the vibrating kind of excitement) for Santa’s visit tomorrow. Christmas with little ones is pretty darn magical, seeing the magic of the holidays through their eyes. We are currently baking cookies, cleaning (not as magical, but the kids actually like it), and will be heading down to China Town to meet good friends (who are also missing extended family this holiday) for a yummy Christmas Eve Chinese food dinner. Hope your Christmas (or whatever you may celebrate) is merry & bright!

the new year, kids style, life with kids, growth, change, blog plans

I have big plans, hopes, dreams and wishes for 2013 – it’s looking bright for this blog, me personally, my little family and humanity.

For my little family, my husband and I have been working really hard at being debt free – 2013 should come with lighter shoulders and brighter less financially burdened smiles (even just a little).

Personally, after 8 months of a constant and steady moksha practice I feel more confident, relaxed (and slightly more anxiety free), and healthy then I ever have before – I am excited to start a new year on such a high physical and mental note. I also have hopes about beginning to work towards big career dreams (dreams about dreams), dreams I have had since I was pretty much a teen – I’m not sure I will get to the dream in 2013 but I have hopes of finally starting the process.

For this here blog, I have big ideas for Heart and Habit (a notebook full of big ideas, actually) – I hope to introduce a few new series and dive even deeper into our simple and real style/lifestyle posts.  Also on the blog note, we got word that WGSN (the world’s number one trend forecaster) named us one of The Top 10 Blogs for Kidswear Inspiration – see the whole diversely talented list here (such a great way for Heart & Habit to ring in the new year).

I also have big hopes and wishes for the world and humanity as a whole, 2013 has to be the year for change – 2012 is not leaving us full of hope, but it is only bright from here, it has to be.
The new year is looking bright, I actually can’t wait for the new – do you have big hopes and dreams for the new year?

Come on, running errands is exciting – just look at the excitement?

little style, kids fashion, kids style, kidswear, kids clothing, running errands with kids

So running errands with little kids, who ever thought that was a brilliant idea?  Probably all of us, every single week! It always sounds like a great idea – well maybe not great but, not so bad. I try to set our errands around activities or make the errands activities themselves – sometimes this helps make the things we have to do run a bit more smoothly. On grocery day, I ask for a special helper (or two) to help me shop – they love to be helpful and have a special task that’s just for them. Drugstore, dry cleaning, etc runs – I choose a park or activity near the stores I need to go and tell the kids “we need to just stop in the store first”. Also trying to stretch out the errands all week, helps me (when it’s possible). Running errands with two kids who do not want to ride in a stroller (one kiddo who is almost too big for a stroller anyways), and who love to look at things with their hands, is a true test of patience – not sure why, every.single.week I convince myself “heck, it won’t be so bad”.
