Swim Suited

Swim Suits / Guide To The Stylish Suits That Are Comfy It seems every year I hunt and hunt for a new swimsuit and usually come up empty-handed. No not naked, just stuck with my old faithful — and usually because I took too long and missed the boat on sizes. Swim suits are hard to shop for and never ever fun to shop for, I just heard you all scream YES. This year, no excuses — I’m getting a new one, you too? Since my goal in life is to always be comfy first, stylish probably second. I went on the hunt to find a bunch of suits that would be comfortable, stylish and good for different summer activities (with kids activities mostly).

I don’t know what your swimsuit must haves are but I’m sure comfortable (who want’s to be uncomfy when they are half-naked? no one) might be one of them for you too. So maybe, just maybe my swim suited list might help you on your hunt.  [above: halter top/boy short – giejo]

There are just too many that I love/want/think I neeeed! The plus about ordering swim suits online is that you get to try them on, at home. And you can either return in the physical store (if they have one by you) or generally the return policy is pretty okay. Have any one you ever ordered swim suits online?

Which is your favorite suit? Are you on the hunt for a new swim suit? What are your requirements?

Father’s Day Gift Guide 2015

1.handmade watch – 2.tickets to his favorite team – 3.manly scented candle – 4.chess board – 5.casual baseball shirt – 6.custom bike – 7.how to stay alive in the woods and thinking fast and slow books – 8.beard oil – 9.sneakers – 10.mug – 11.balancing blocks – 12.part wood iphone case – 13.whiskey ice wedge – 14.manly face wash

I don’t know what’s going on here, I’m actually on time with a gift guide. This doesn’t mean I will actually be on time with ordering or getting Chris his gift, but hey least I have all my ideas — that’s something, right? It’s the beginning of June and the day for Dad’s is right around the corner and maybe the Dad (‘s) in your life don’t like grilling as much as ALL the stores think they do? And if that’s the case (I know mine isn’t dying for BBQ supplies — what is with that anyways?), maybe my little round-up of “things I think would be awesome for a Dad” (that are high-low-medium priced, BTW) will be more their style? And because I’m early (sorta) with this list, you can be all prepared and order now — so at least one of us will be on time.

Hope you all had a great weekend!

6 Ways To Grab A Moment Alone, When You Are Not Alone

6 Ways To Grab A Moment Alone, When You're Not Alone. Some days it just feels impossible to get a moment to yourself, to catch a tiny breather. And most days it feels like that’s just what you need, just that tiny second to yourself to catch you breath and to let your mind unwind a little. And as always by YOU, I mean ME, I’m just always assuming we are on the same page — which we sorta are, cause you’re here and so are my words.
As a parent I just need a breather, sometimes.
As an urban dweller, I need some space from time to time (slash everyday).
And from working and living in a small space, I need “just a second” to my lonesome almost daily.
Sure I practice yoga, and that is my sanity saver but still as the day rolls on “moments alone” to get myself back on track are still often needed.

I realize I don’t always get those official alone moments and I’m pretty positive you don’t either (same page and all). But I also realized there are a few things I do to squeak moments in when I can, even the half assed type of seconds alone can be pretty sweet.

Uniform / Park Dates

mom-uniform3 mom-uniform5 mom-uniform6 tank: american apparel – shorts: urban outfitters – bag: brave – cooler bag: soyoung – sandals: birkenstocks  // on Harlow hat:77kids (brother hand me down) – necklace: homemade – dress: gapkids (similar) – sandals: gapkids (similar)

The Mom uniform giveaway is the cooler bag filled with snacks, plus also the kiddo in my other hand? Our weather keeps on flip-flopping around, summer to spring to god-knows-what cold days. But on the hotter days, that feel like summer? We instantly fell right back into our regular summer park — as if we didn’t miss a beat from last summer. We (I) always pack a bag of snacks, a bag of activities (chalk, baseball bat and gloves and a soccer ball) and we just hang around at any given park all day long, the official recipe for the perfect weekend day.
We often hop around to different parks every other day, park hopping is the new bar hopping, haven’t you heard? So here it is, my most basic of basic summertime “mom uniforms” — a really great pair of shorts, comfy sandals and a go to tank and done. See I told you, you’d probably wear these shorts every day all summer long.

My Super Power

yoga-namaste This practice, this time on my mat it’s just so much more than those two titles even give it credit, it’s apart of me, my day and my life. Next to motherhood, losing a loved one and wifehood (that should be a word) it has been the biggest source of self discovery of my entire life. Not just physically, but since we are on that topic the physical discovery has been full of WOAH (eyes popping out, I CAN’T BELIEVE I CAN DO THAT, type Woah) moments. But I’m talking about the inside, feeeeelings and thoughts (the cheesier) type of self discovery.

For me, there is no bigger reset then a good (heck even a bad, but there really isn’t such a thing) yoga practice. I could have had an argument with Chris before going to a class, a conversation where I’m super stuck (stubborn) on my points and super foggy (totally blind) when I try to see his side, but after class? All of a sudden I am like the most understanding, kind and compassionate version of myself, like ever. I see his side and mine and most importantly the middle, I’m easily able to swallow my pride and properly fix an issue (or my issue, usually it’s my issue). Literally the very best version of myself is in those first couple hours after I finish practicing. Yoga is my super power, actually yoga is my power up to my super power.

As a Mom, after a really hard day with the kids (yesterday categorizes under this heading) I always say to myself “tomorrow will be better” and it’s true, tomorrow always is better. Actually the moment the kids fall asleep everything is instantly better, because I go over the day in my head and realize all the places I could have been better — and then I miss them. Yoga does a similar yet even bigger reset for me. It’s so much bigger, that the “tomorrow” reset falls second to the yoga reset, if you can imagine that?

camel Being naturally anxious, working for myself, managing a house, being a wife, Mom, friend and just an all around human being I need moments for me. But not just moments where I put my feet up with a glass of wine and watch some trashy tv (I need those too), but moments where I can lose myself, my ego and come out the other side as a slightly better version of myself. Even if that better version only sticks around for a couple of hours. I just need to know she is there on a consistent basis, and I’m sure my family does too.
Deep thoughts for a Friday, hey? Also please notice I didn’t say, eh — if I had you would have had full permission to make fun of me.

What is your ultimate reset? Do you have something you do for yourself that makes you feel like the very best version of yourself? What is your “tomorrow will be better” moment/thing? Do you have something that gives you a “super power”?

Favorite Things / 10

Rope Cross Body Bag SUMMER KITCHEN SINK BAG – Kitchen sink because it holds everything, PLUS the kitchen sink (probably, but not literally). It’s a giant circle bottom rope bag, that I have been hooked on since it came my way. I’m able to toss everything, all the kids junk, our days snacks, my camera and my usual bag stuff — it almost feels like my magician bag, cause I just keep pulling stuff out of it. Plus it looks really nice and beachy. It was a happy surprise that will most likely be my favorite summer bag (it also doubles as a pretty gym bag for Goodlife dates or of course my everyday yoga classes). Also birks, most comfortable/best all around sandal — pick a style any style (so many styles).

wireless mouse MAGICAL MOUSE – If you have a laptop you better get yourself a wireless mouse, apple or not (but apple). For the longest time I used my track-pad exclusively, what a wonderful thing to do if you desperately want to get carpel tunnel. Then I switched to a wireless mouse and magically all my wrist issues disappeared, I’m that Mom telling everyone with a laptop they should get one — so might as well put my Mom face on here too. Also, if you are ever in Toronto, Propeller Coffee is so…two thumbs up.

soyoung-bag OUR SNACK PACK – It’s a lunch/cooler bag, but since I claimed it as mine and I don’t actually pack a lunch (yet, I will when I start renting a desk in a shared studio space — excited!) I use MY lunch bag for weekend snacks. I like it a lot, it keeps all our food separate from all other things in my bag, and it keeps everything cool, it’s this perfect purse sized cooler bag that’s easy to carry. It also fits in my kitchen sink summer bag, which is pretty great.

nars-red-nailpolish PARK SIDE PEDICURE – The ultimate of luxury, this is true blue pampering right here. While the kids took turns playing TBall, I brought out my current favorite nail polish (Nars Dovima) and gave myself a quick half assed, pedicure. You gotta take tiny moments to yourself, whenever they are available. And for some reason red is my go to this season, probably because everything else in my wardrobe is monochromatic a pop of something felt needed.

jean shorts GOLD STAR SUMMER SHORTS – After searching around for really good denim shorts for (what felt like) hours in a mall, barf. The mall is literally the last place on earth I’d like to be, but it was worth it for these. I’ll probably never take them off all summer, so be prepared to see me wearing them in every single picture.

facial-cleansing-oil FACE CLEANSING OIL – Say what? Oil to clean your face? It’s a little crazy I agree, but afterwards it feels a whole lot more like magic. My face has never ever been cleaner and blackheads, those babies just got washed away. I also clearly love Leaves of Trees, so far their all natural deodorant and this Facial Cleansing Oil are on everyday rotation. Since I had to google how to use oil for face cleaning, I’ll just link to that article so you can read from someone who has more experience than just a few weeks.
