July 2010

It must be something in his gene, most likely from my half (because he also has my pale skin).

Kingston always goes BRIGHT red in the heat, it happens almost instantly in the hot humidity that is Toronto. Some days I feel like I should make him carry a sign that says “I am not over heated and my mom does not deprive me of water” because people sure like to give funny looks, or tell me how he is feeling, or what he wants. I just always tell them, no his tomato face is au natural.

Kingston really loves when we read books together, he also really likes to pretend to read the books and imitate sounds or faces we make when reading (so cute).

Recently, a book we received from a very sweet girl 🙂 on King’s 1st Birthday has been on his “pease wead gan” (Please read again!) list.

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! By Mo Willems is hilarious, cute and entertaining. We all know children like to over do everything! (movies, songs, books, and everything else!). Even after reading this book a million times, I still like it. It’s a great simple story with really cute illustrations, sure any kid (and parent) will love.

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus! is part of a series, call Pigeon Presents. I can’t wait to get the rest of the Pigeon books, as I’m sure they are all as great as this one. This is one cute pigeon, definitely  not a “dirty bird”  like his real life friends.

Kingston is almost 2 years old, and I think pretty ready to start swimming lessons.

He LOVES the water, any water, he asks to see water (water fountains, wading pools, swimming pools, whatever) everyday. But he goes absolutely crazy over swimming pools. He loves to “swim” even though he has no idea how. Last weekend we went to my cousins and had a great day of swimming. I realized as i clinched in fear and my heart raced, as I watched him jump, walk of the pool edge into his dads arms (and trying to avoid jumping into his arms as he thought it was funny) I need to enroll him in lessons. Or get Chris not to show him that jumping in the water is fun!

I know they won’t actually be swimming lessons (he won’t be learning no breast stroke..yet), but Kingston will hopefully learn to have a little fear when it comes to water, and how to be ok with putting his head underwater. Also it will be a great thing for him and his Dad to do together, as swimming is not my thing (lets just say, Kingston will probably be a better swimmer then me by his 4th Birthday). 😉

Lately Kingston has two favourite toys, Hot Wheels (like every little boy) and his Anamalz.

He has been obsessed with Animals lately, learning about all the different types, what they look like, and what noises they make. He has these awesome small, wooden, animal figures that his Dad bought for him, called Anamalz. He loves them, he plays with them everyday, pulling one out at a time showing us what he knows. He still gets a little confused as to what animal makes what noise, lately he has been saying “Munkee…ROAR!!” but he is learning fast, thanks to his little figurines.

He puts all his Hot Wheels in one lunch box and all his Anamalz in another, he carries them both from room to room so he can play with them everywhere. Most days he will bring one Animal with him when we leave the house, yesterday he had to bring the whole lot of them. So we sat at the park playing animals.:)

We love wooden toys in this house, so fell in love with these Anamalz right away. My husband made sure he bought every single animal they sold, at the time, I’m sure by now they have made more. They are great toddler toys, for learning, also great because they have no small pieces, and are totally environmentally friendly so ok to chew on, suck on and they stand up to the wear and tear of a good old tantrum. Trust me these Anamalz see alot of tantrums, and get thrown all over the place, and they are still as good as new.

Is it just our children, or do most babies HATE bath time?

Kingston cried bloody murder during bath time as an infant, he starting loving baths around 4 or 5 months old. Harlow HATES bath-time just like her brother, you would think it would be a soothing, comfortable experience for them, since they lived in fluid for 9 months.

Wow time flies!! My baby girl is already 2 months old!!

She’s smiling, laughing and cooing up a storm. She sleeps pretty great (most nights), and has started falling madly in love with her brother. She is still pretty small, she’s a slim long little girl. She’s our little Queen, and she sure is growing up fast!!
