Early fall in Toronto is like this perfect mix of Indian summer and fall (two posts in a row that are sorta about weather, get a life – I know). There are only a few trees that have started to loose their leaves, so we have a bit of the beauty but still the weather where bundling up isn’t needed. The slow change of the trees has made teaching and explaining the season change so much more “colorful” and easy, and of course it makes coming across random piles of leaves soo much more exciting.

Like who cares that we were downtown and walking along a busy street, the leaves were just laying there and begging to be thrown. And like the snow in winter, water in the summer, and rain in the spring, there is just something so extremely special about playing in the leaves – it’s like natures gift or toy, or something profound. Watching them play is like a huge childhood deja vu, only better. The world sorta stops for me and I stop being an adult, get to live my childhood all over again just by watching them. They played in these, probably disgustingly dirty leaves (we were downtown, oh I can just imagine all the gross) for a long while – then Chris and I looked at each other and called the game quits. It’s funny how we both just know when a game that is awesomely fun is going to turn into a not so awesome fight or tears. Call it parental intuition or most likely personal (and current) experience with things that are awesome at first but they go to far and turn bad, fall’s buddy winter usually has that effect on me.

*the last one, totally got caught gramming – but I love it a true capture of a capture.

It is nice that Chris and you can make time to go for a walk in downtown with the kids. 🙂
I wish I could have seen what you are wearing as well! From reading your blog for a while now I know for a fact that you have great taste! I mean the kids look like they just stepped out of kids fashion magazine!
I love the changes in the colors of leaves. Coming from Easter Europe this is a must in autumn. Collecting them, putting them in heavy books (pressing them to put them in albums), gluing them to various art projects and of course playing in a pile of leaves is a must…
