New Year, Let’s Do This!

let's be actionable with changes this new year I want to start this post with a really big HEY, how are you guys!? I know today is the day we are all crawling out of our pjs, and finally getting back into routine. For some of us it’s a welcome shift out of the holiday fog but for the rest of us, we are dragging our feet crying along the way (whomp whomp). But really it’s not all that bad, especially when you really do love what you do and your routine is pretty awesome.

These winter holidays have always been my absolute favorite (even during those times when Christmas wasn’t my favorite), because the rest of the world is also on winter holidays and everything is just so nice and quiet. I had always found that during this cold winter vacation time was when I relaxed the most, was able to get to things I regularly didn’t have time for (hello inbox!) and always felt the most inspired. I naturally had high expectations for these past Christmas holidays, time to relax, work on plans/dreams/projects, clean out that inbox, update websites, a time to find focus and get re-inspired.
See the thing with expectations is, they are really great (and exciting) while you are expecting them, but if and when they don’t work out? You feel a little squashed, let down and a little like a failure. And that’s sorta where I am right now, my expectations did not pan out (I was not able to get to any of my usual end of year/winter vacation tasks) and my usual clean slate, fresh inspired start to the new year just isn’t currently happening.

But you know what, that’s all okay and totally cool! Just because things didn’t pan out as I expected, or because the year didn’t start as planned it doesn’t mean they won’t eventually pan out. And really sometimes (most of the time) a swift kick in the pants/ego is a good thing and can often give similar results but in a more humbled setting. None of this is actually a problem, or an issue, but it brought me to a realization.
Instead of opening the new year (hey, HAPPY NEW YEAR guys! forgot to say that) out with a BIG inspiring post, I wanted to be honest because I’m not feeling that usual “new year, new me” inspired feeling (even though I still LOVE a fresh clean slate). And that’s fine, I also know it’s often nice to hear that we all have times where we feel a bit squashed, even if it’s just our ego or our plans — “hey it’s not just me!”

What a downer of a post especially for the start of a new year, but really I’m going somewhere with this…I think. Since I started the new year feeling rather sluggish, unfocused and overwhelmed I realized that most of the people I talk to, and most of you have said a version of this uninspired, lost, unfocused feeling is or has affected you (sometimes monthly). Sure this is a 1st world problem, but an annoying common problem none the less. And one I have tons of experience with over coming, and giving advice on (because of all my annoying experience with).

So instead of my usual list of awesome things you (and I) can do to make this year fan-f*king-tastic. And quotes or sayings telling you to “do what you love”, kidding I don’t really do that (though I do like to pin them). I wanted to take my current own feelings of meh (because they happen to EVERY one) and a) take my own advice and b) spend some time this year giving that same ACTIONABLE advice to you. It’s great to read and hear people tell you, to follow your dreams, and do what you love — but how flipping annoying is that to hear when you literally have no idea HOW to actually do that?

I love this blog, and that I’m able to use it as a vehicle to get my excess amount of thoughts and ideas out of my head, to share my knowledge of apparel/fashion, but I want to be better at using it for good (blogs can be a super power, right?). Over the last year I’ve focused more than ever on everyday style (and how to make it every day, and not break the bank) and how to make life simply better, this year I really want to focus more on helping you find your focus and yourself/making everyday content (and still style, of course because that’s what I know best of all). Even if that means I outsource for help, to the actual experts.

So please help me help you, tell me; what are your very own new years resolutions? What are you struggling with and would really like to focus on this year?

CLICK HERE TO TELL ME, ANONYMOUSLY (also this is more fun and helpful)

PS. I am super excited for this fresh new year and I even have super exciting high hopes and dreams for it — shocker, I know.

And if you are in need of a few small resolutions, check out this post from last year — filled with a bunch of really great small changes you can make that will make a big impact.
