Small Style Icon, features those little ones that leave the rest of us Mom’s in utter shock at how stylish a little person can be!
Our Small Style Icon this week is truly an Icon, Penelope aka Pippi, from Pippi Parade! She is a natural little fashion plate, and the star of Pippi Parade a fashionable blog all about Penelope’s many outfits. Pippi’s mom, Heather is a super sweet lady who owns one of my favourite little vintage shops for kids; 3 Ring Circus. Heather is also a talented stylist {Pippi’s outfits are a prime example}, so she is the perfect Mama to give us a few tips!
Dress: Misha Lulu…T-Shirt: Target…Leggings: Target {baby dept}…Boots: Hand me downs
What are your favourite stores or brands you like to shop at for Pippi?
Misha Lulu and Acoustic Clothing for brands, they have a vintage retro feel to them. Places to shop; thrift stores and etsy for handmade or vintage. Target and H&M for the basics. Zara and crewcuts at the mall.
75% of our wardrobe is hand me downs and thrift stores finds. We shop for basics at Target and H&M because they are affordable and can be mixed well with the hand me-downs and vintage. If we make our way to the mall or a department store we head straight to the sale racks because normally you can find the odd colors or wacky prints that most people pass over and they are at a better price.
We also do some online shopping at the mini social. As much as we love designer/boutique clothing, kids just grow so quickly. By wearing hand me downs and recycled finds outfits become much more interesting.
Do you have any tips for putting a little outfit together for other Mom’s who are wanting to dress their little one like a small icon?
Dressing kids should be fun! The most important thing for Penelope when picking clothing, is that it has to be comfortable. Leggings are always a great choice to wear under dresses. Sometimes we shop for leggings in the baby department to use at shorts or capris. Mixing vintage finds, like an 80’s dress, with some modern skinny jeans, and a pair of toms updates the look. Vintage or hand made sweaters are always a must, they can make a target dress look a little more unique. Since we get a lot of hand me downs, they may not always be for the right seasons so we may layer long sleeve tees under tank style dresses/tops and add some tights or knee socks. Each season we can splurge on a few designer pieces knowing that we will mix it with thrift or hand me downs.
Does Pippi’s style mirror your own or is her personalty beginning to shine thru? Does she ever pick out her own clothes?
I would say that Penelope and I have similar styles in the sense that we both wear vintage mixed with basics. But she definitely has her own style. She is much brighter and more daring with mixing prints than I am. She has a say in what she wears and picks it out most days.
What are your {or Pippi’s} FAV 3 pieces that get the most wear/use?
Three pieces that get the most use would be our courtneycourtney custom dress that was made from daddy’s rock tees (it’s cozy) .
Grey skinny jeans which can be worn with her dresses or a tee for school.
A vintage peasant dress that was mamas and has been worn as a dress and now fits as a tunic top.
Dress: Thrifted {vintage 1980′s}…Bloomers: Handme downs {baby pants}…Sandals: Miss Trish from Target
