SOMETHING SPECIAL

On weekend mornings we sit around, before getting ready and talk about what we are going to do that day. Chris and I like to decide, and keep it a secret from the kids till we arrive (if there is a destination) or till we are enroute. It’s called doing “something special” in our house, which in all honesty is not always something special (technically speaking) – but I guess it’s all in the delivery and the theatrics of the day.

8 times out of 10, we spend the day on a “family adventure” which is what we like to call walking around the city (we obviously like to name things). The other 2 times out of 10, we go somewhere “special” – a fun destination. Yesterday was a family adventure day, one where I didn’t pull my camera out once. So the above photos are from the previous week (which I somehow missed posting) – but they tell the same story, and are pretty cute I think. On family adventure days, we just walk around the city. Stopping for snacks (yesterday was: frozen yogurt, Poutine and Montreal style bagels), window shopping, checking out parks (chasing after pigeons), singing too loudly as we walk, playing games along the way and just hanging out. We are so lucky to live in a city were the adventure is non stop, because just walking is one of our favorite “something specials”.

Yesterday we walked for about 7 hours, which was also a good 9.5 km – ducking from the rain storm, and basking in the beautiful clear skies when the clouds passed. It was a great day, and though walking for 9.5 km probably doesn’t sound like “something special” – it was, and always is one of our favorite past times.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; you are one inspirational mama :). I completely agree with you, even a simple walk around the neighborhood can be made into "something special" with the right attitude and frame of mind. Your family is darling, thank you for letting us in and keep up the amazing work mama!
