I’ve got the itch to make some changes, big blog changes (scary blog changes). Over the past maybe 6 months, Baby Blackbird has made a bit of natural a switch to include much more of our everyday life, posts about our family life as well as kiddo and family style. I adore creating and sharing my background in posts around personal/kiddo style but I of course love my family and everything about them even more, so it only made sense to share a bit more about us and our simple city life mixed in with kids style.
With the bit of a content switch I also had the idea to make a name switch, duh duh duh! It was a thought that popped in my head, and I actually sorta hoped it was a fleeting thought – a name change is SO scary (which is why I feel so, duh duh duh dramatic about it) the amount of work that goes into it (has my head spinning) and would I lose readers, etc. My reasoning behind thinking about making a name change in the first place is pretty simple: I love the name Baby Blackbird, it holds personal meaning to me (see all about it here) but I am not sure it is the right fit for what this blog is actually about (and not sure it holds a strong meaning to you). It denotes something much more baby (since well, baby is in the name) and I write nothing around or about babies at all – my thought is to chose a name that better encompasses US and kids/family style.
So, I am asking you my amazing loyal and new readers for your opinion on the matter:
What do you think: Should the Baby Blackbird name stay or should I replace it with a name that better suits this space? Or even more fun: Do you have any suggestions for a new name? I have a name in mind, but since I’m so nervous about the idea of a switch (if you have any experience in a name change, good or bad please share!) I’m not completely sold – which is why I need your help! What do you think, or do you have any expertise to calm my dramatic nerves?

I really like Baby Blackbird (it sounds chic), but I think you should go with your gut!
Personally I think you are chic. 🙂 Thanks Michelle!
I love your name… To me it really doesn’t denote "baby" type content. I think the Blackbird part sort of makes it… cool (your site’s appearance and layout promote that ‘coolness’, too)! I’ve always seen your site a a really hip, really up to date place to come for toddler style goodness, and the everyday life stuff is just icing on the cake, ya know? I do agree with Michelle, though… if your gut says time for change then so be it… I don’t think you’ll lose readers. Not this reader, anyway! Good luck in deciding!
Seriously, made my whole day! Thank you so much!
Hmmm… though choice. I love the name, but I do think a name that suits your blog content better might make sense. Good luck with your decision, I say go with your gut!

Thank you! So much amazing feedback, really helps so much!
I also love the name Baby Blackbird, regardless of applicacy. But it’s yours to adapt as your life does.
Thanks Christine!!
I love the name too, it never sounded baby-ish to me at all, but I think that changes are good too…go with your gut. Either way, I’m excited for the changes and the personal content I adore. I especially love that we live in the same lovely city 🙂
Such a lovely city we share!! 🙂 Thanks Ana!!
The only thing I have to say is that no matter what´s your blog name, I will be your follower
Sweetest!
I agree with Dressing Ivana. I look forward to your blog everyday, no matter the name. I also love where you have taken the blog. My favorite days are the day’s featuring your kiddo’s- give’s me a dose of cute reality in the middle of my work day.
Thank you Becca!! SO sweet and thank you for always coming back to read! 🙂
I have been dealing with the same thing. I kept thinking people get so hung up on the "Baby". But most people get it. I like Baby Blackbird, and I dont think of Baby when I read. People will still read Baby Blackbird no matter the name.
Thank you!! I didn’t use baby, because I had babies – but now I just really feel like ‘woah’ baby don’t fit! 🙂
It’s a tough call, I think it’s totally fine as long as you re-direct your site. I do like the name of your blog and I never felt like it was too "babyish", but if you want to do it go for it, people will not stop reading 🙂

Totally would do a redirect, otherwise I would drown in work and yeah no way. 🙂 Thank you Lora!!
It is a big change! I’m a faithful baby blackbird reader, but I have to say, it took me awhile to catch on to your blog because of the name. It doesn’t seem to identify what your blog is about very well. Either way, I will be a huge fan! Good luck in making the decision.
The name actually started out back when I had an Etsy store, the blog came later – so maybe it sorta never really totally fit. Though the names I am thinking of are pretty general too, but general in a good way. Thank you so much, really means a lot!
i think of baby blackbird to be you. Nothing to do with ‘babies’ well not nothing but more about you than them. Get me?
I like it. I wouldn’t change…maybe add something on the end if you feel you need to.
Baby blackbird & kids in the city blah blah..
Tracey
So sweet and kind, that’s a good idea – I will have to brain storm some more. 🙂
I’ll follow no matter what!
I love the name, personally. Just the other day I was thinking about how it is such a great blog name! But, this is your space….we are just guests! Do what you want, sister! I’ll still visit daily. I love the content and heart here. Good luck!
Awww! Thank you, that means a lot and makes me way less worried about the name – either way.
Why not something in the middle? Brand your website with the logo/image of a baby blackbird, then this won’t confuse new readers or people who might wonder why there are no babies on the website. I’ve only recently discovered your website (I love it) And I never really thought too much about the name. It was just your identifier in bloglovin and sounds pretty too!
I actually did that in the past, but it just wasn’t my style – seems the consensus is I am the only one over thinking the name, which makes a lot of sense since am am over thinker! 🙂 Thank you so much!
